My Audience

Wednesday 27th March 2019

Task 2
Answer the following questions about audience profiling:

  • Name 5 ways in which audiences can be categorised.
  • Why do you think it's important for media producers to categorise audiences?
  • What is the target audience as described in your chosen brief?
  • Give a short explanation as to your understanding of the target audience given in your chosen brief.

1) ways in which and audience can be categorised include niche audiences ,mass audiences , gender, social class, age ,sexuality, religion, race, nationality

2)i think it is important for media producers to categorise audiences because it helps the media producers understand what types of media products to produce and who to produce it for.also ,it helps the media producers understand their audience and how many viewers from these categories are watching their products and then they can produce these products for these categories and get the most amount viewers watching their products .

3)the target audience as described in my brief is for children ages 10-13 .

4)in the brief i have chosen, the target audience for my brief is children ages 10-13. this includes any person from the ages of 10,11,12,13. i can also understand that my audience will be in years 7,8,9. these are of similar age to me therefore i can connect and understand what products they would like to see .

Task 3 - Go to www.surveymonkey.com, create a FREE account and create a 10-question questionnaire asking people what they like and dislike about media products of your chosen brief.

https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/FWMZSBM
Task 4 - Invite peers to answer the questionnaire... you can do this via sending them a link via email. You can also copy and paste this link onto this post.

You must wait for the students to answer your questionnaire.

Task 5 - Review your results and copy and paste any graphs or charts given by surveymonkey.  Then you need to write up your findings in paragraph form including how you intend to use the information collated in your questionnaire.
You can use the questions below to help you write your analysis:

  • What did you find useful about the information collated?
  • How are you going to use the information collated to establish/define a target audience for your product?
  • What does your audience expect to see in the product you're going to create?
  • How are you going to use the information collated to come up with designs and house-styles for your product?

Task 6 - DEFINE YOUR AUDIENCE
The last piece of writing you need to do should be an explanation of who your target audience actually is now... Please define your audience by gender, age, socio-economic class, likes and dislikes.

from my survey i found that my audience age from 12-13.  They are mostly of girls and their favourite topic is baking. i found that they disliked the topic fashion.

intertextuality in the media

Wednesday 20th March 2019

intertextuality in the media

Task 2 :
i this task i am going to be choosing different media texts from magazines and say how they have used intertextuality in the media products and say what effect they have on the audience .

Task 3 :
Choose 3 different media texts... as long as they link to the brief you've chosen.
How and why is intertextuality employed in 2 media products and what effect does this have in their intended audience?

Image result for magazines using intertextuality

this media text uses intertextuality . this is because the main image is a reference to the movie Cinderella  . we know this as her dress is the same blue colour in the movie and her headband is also the same colour as the one in the movie.this would help any younger audiences as they would recognise the image and would pester their parents to possibly buy the magazine.

Image result for shout magazine intertextualitythis media text uses intertextuality by using the word "glee" this word refers to the movie glee. therefore this media text uses intertextuality as it refers to a movie through words used in the title of the movie. this will help the audience connect to the audience as they recognise the movie title.

Image result for shout magazine intertextualitythis media text uses intertextuality through her costume .on the front of her shirt shows a familiar Disney character Donald duck. this is intertextuality as one media text  refers to another in their text .

task 4 :

in my magazine i will refer to youtube and possibly famous makeup artists and also girl empowerment figures . i will do this by using famous lines from them or refering to their work in my magazine .

Choose TWO front covers and TWO double spread articles from educational magazines.

1) Image result for tips for girls aged 10-13 magazine
  • Describe the main characters/people in the media products... E.g. Gender, Age, Race.  the main character is female she is approximately in her late 20s . she is mixed race .
  • Are they represented positively or negatively? What gives you this impression?  positively as they she is branding a campaign that supports girls .
  • What media language elements are they using to construct these representations? For this, don't just look at the obvious, look at everything around the people too, such as colour of text (magazine) or non-diegetic music in the background (video), mise-on-scene (video and magazine, online), etc.  her smile gives the audience the impression that this magazine is positive . also the bright colours of the writing and her dress gives us the impression that this magazine is positive .

  • How do the colour schemes help construct the brand identity of your chosen products?  the colour schemes are very neon and bright this gives us a sense of positivity and happiness .
  • Are there are intertextuality elements that help create meaning?
  • What type of shot/music are they using? head to mid way shot .

    • What connotations do the colours they use have? happiness , bright, positivity,
